Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, has commended the Federal Government for appointing more women into key positions, noting that the participation of more women in governance and decision-making will facilitate even development and fast-track the attainment of set objectives.

Alhaji Bayero, who made the commendation when the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zainab Maina, paid him an advocacy visit in his palace, said his Emirate takes the issue of women and children very seriously and will, therefore, not hesitate to support any effort aimed at improving their well-being and advancement.

He said: “In view of their contributions to the home and society, women should be supported and encouraged to be educated and get into the commanding heights of decision-making so that they will be able to address their own issues and concerns as well as plan for themselves and their children.

“We are also concerned with the welfare and development of our children, because children are our future. For us to guarantee our future, we must train and guide them into productive and responsible adulthood.”

The royal father also assured the Minister that his Emirate will continue to support all efforts that are targeted at advancing the causes of women, children, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable subjects, even as he called on government to redouble efforts at improving their standard of living.

Earlier, the Minister has solicited the support of the traditional institution to promote the welfare of women, children and other vulnerable groups in the country.

Hajiya Maina said: “As custodian of our cultural heritage, the traditional institution has a vital role in the efforts at ensuring that every segment of the society enjoys the right to participate fully in nation building.”
