Former Super Eagles winger, Tijani Babangida has asked the Aminu Maigari-led Nigeria Football Federation, NFF board to resign just as he lamented the poor state of the country’s football.

Speaking to Saturday Vanguard Sports from Prague, Czech Republic where he is on tour with Spora Sokoto Football Academy, the former Ajax star said the nation’s football is on the way to hitting the rocks but charged the NFF to desist from focusing on competitions instead of developing the game.

“If his board sacks all the coaches, then they are left with themselves to sack. I have always believed that were there is failure there must be voluntary resignation. I can’t say he should be sacked because he was elected and he knows the exit door,” Babangida said.

Expressing his opinion on the poor state of the country’s football, the Atlanta ’96 Olympic gold winner said, “We are on our way to hit rock bottom in football and even sports. I think we must start putting more energy on grass root football and change our approach for immediate results in games and tournaments.

“A good example is the U-23 team at the just concluded Africa Championship held in Morocco. They were so disorganized. They didn’t allow them to camp for six months instead they went to Morocco telling us that they were in high spirit after dropping key players and bringing in those that we hadn’t heard about doing well in their various clubs. This played out in their lack of coordination and fitness.

“If you camp the best home- based players for months, all you need is to bring in three to four foreign players to add to the team so the job would be easy,” Babangida added.
