ICSAN seeks engagement of professionals in governance

The National President, Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria, ICSAN, Mr Teslim Busari, has emphasized the need, for professionals, to be inculcated in governance, as this will help achieve speedy growth and development of the country.

Speaking during the general meeting of ICSAN in Lagos, Busari said the non-involvement of professionals in governance will serve as a major factor militating against the growth of ny economy.

According to him, placing professionals in politics is key to economic development and good governance in the country.

He commended the Lagos State Government for its efforts at engaging professionals, noting that this has been a major factor responsible for the outstanding successes recorded in the state.

He called on other states to emulate the Lagos state government if they want to enjoy the benefits associated with the use of professionals.

Busari further stated that Ogun state is also trying to copy the example of Lagos, adding however, that the challenges is that other states are not as cosmopolitan as Lagos.

Also speaking, Chairman, Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), Lagos State Chapter, Mrs Jacqueline Odiadi, called on professional secretaries in Nigeria to abide by the code of conduct of their profession so that their presence will be felt in the country.

Odiadi expressed satisfaction in her role as the chairman of ICSAN, saying it has afforded her the opportunity to develop her leadership skills in challenging circumstances.

She added that as professionals in Nigeria, one needs to develop skills that will enable one serve well in any area they find themselves in the country.

She said part of her role was to work towards the advancement of the core values of the institute, in addition to her primary duty to ensure the growth of the institute.

Odiadi, said “when I was elected, I made a commitment to move the chapter to the next level, even in the face of the daunting hurdles.”

Furthermore, Odiadi, urged members of the institute to abide by the code of conduct of the profession so that their effect could be felt by the institute and their fellow professional colleagues in the country.

Continuing, she said the institute has established more contacts with other organizations as a way of projecting the ideals of the institute and creating awareness about the profession.
