Edo 2012: Edo coalition adopts Edebiri

By Jimitota Onoyume, PH
A coalition of four political parties in Edo State has adopted the national chairman of the Peoples Progressive Party PPP, Chief Solomon Iyobnosa Edebiri, as its candidate for next year’s governorship election in the state.

Chairman of the coalition, Comrade Godwin Erahon, extolled the sterling qualities of Edebiri just as he assured that the opposition was set to grab political power in the state.

The aspirant, in his acceptance speech, lamented the decay in several sectors of the state. According to him, virtually all the industries in the state have closed shop. “Even Edo Line, our popular transport scheme, is dead”, he said, adding that he was driven into the gubernatorial race by the passion to reposition the state. Edebiri, who until recently was the sole financier of Bendel Insurance, a football club in the state, said since he pulled out, nothing much was coming from the club.

He further decried the high state of youth unemployment in the state which he noted had raised the level of crime and other challenges posed by youth unemployment.

While assuring that he would not let his supporters down, Edebiri said he was elated by the decision of the parties, ANPP, Labour Party, CPC and his PPP to accept him as an aspirant on the platform of the coalition.
