Lagos Civil Society Partnership (LACSOP) has called on the Lagos State legislature to build a lasting relationship with the media and civil society groups.

The call was made by the group in a report titled, ‘Strengthening Legislature, Media and Civil Society Relationship for Transparency, Accountability and Good Governance in Lagos State’.

The report, edited by a human right activist, Mr Lanre Arogundade, requested the state assembly to partner the media and the civil society so its programmes would be acceptable by the citizens and also enhance democratic process.

The report said, “The civil society and the media help guarantee the participation of citizens in governance by providing useful information to members of the public and serving as avenue for citizens to obtain information from government. Through these processes, there is increased acceptability of government programmes.

“Against this background, this programme on strengthening the exiting relationship between the House of Assembly, the Media and the Civil Organisation will enrich our democratic process.”
