Policemen fire tear-gas at protesting SSS 2 students

ADO-EKITI—No fewer than 11 students of Anglican High School, Adebayo area Ado-Ekiti were yesterday arrested by the police for protesting over their alleged demotion by the state ministry of Education.

Ekiti State Government started recently to conduct Unified Mock Examination for Senior Secondary School, SSS 2 students going to SSS 3 ,while those who failed the exam are denied registeration for West Africa School Certificate Examination, WASCE.

The protest which was initially peaceful, took a new turn when anti-riot policemen used tear-gas to disperse the students.

During the protest, the students smashed the windscreen of a police Hilux Van with number plate NPF 1704C from Okeila Police Station and the Principal of the School, Mr. Joel Akinola was held hostage for about an hour.
