SAPELE- Member representing Sapele Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Chief Monday Ovwigho Igbuya, Wednesday broke silence and refuted allegation and a petition to the inspector general of police, to the effect that he killed or masterminded the killing of a sapele based politician and special assistant to Mr. Atose- immediate past chairman of Sapele Local Government, Mr. Saturday Agbamu, nine months ago, over political dispute.
Mr. Igbuya spoke at Bethel Baptist Church, Sapele, venue of a thanks-giving service, he organised to celebrate the State House Assembly Election Tribunal verdict which gave him victory three weeks ago, in a case filed against him by Democratic Peoples Party candidate at the election, Chief Cyril Ogodo, in which the latter prayed the Tribunal to nullify his victory at the election on the ground that the election was frost with gross irregularity.
The tribunal had struck out the case, in favour of Chief Igbuya, for want of evidence.
The law maker said when he first heard about the allegation and a petition which followed to the effect that the killed the late politician, he thought it was a joke until he was summoned by the police to explain his role in the murder of the politician.
Chief Igbuya who urged the congregation to observe a minute of silence in honour and memory of the slain politician, said it was at the police station that he got the opportunity to see, in black and white, the petition.
He said if not for God that saw him through the hands of the police as he was innocent of the charge, he would not have gotten the opportunity to recontest the election in April, 26, 2011.
Igbuya said he sees politics as a game or sport where loosers and winners emerge, advising those who engage in politics to do so with the spirit of sportsman as power belong to God who gives it to whoever He wishes, urging that there was no reason to kill to attain the position of power.
While showering encomium on the former state governor, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, for his good work in the state and for making it possible for him to become a legislator in the state, Chief Igbuya said he has never killed in his life and has no reason to kill; urging members of the public to discountenance the allegation as well as the petition which he said were cooked up by his political foes to terminate his political career.
Dignitaries present at the thanksgiving ceremony include; the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Victor Ochei, the Senior Political Adviser to the governor, Chief Ighoyota Amori, renown philanthropist, Mr. Joseph Atseyinku, chairman of Abigborodo Land Trust Committee, Mr. Francis Eyituoyor- Maku, party members and business executives across the state.
