Parish priest of St.Dennis Catholic Church, Bariga in Lagos, Rev. Fr. Joseph Nwanua has blamed high rate of moral decadence in the country on the absence of parental care, reports OLAYINKA LATONA.

Speaking during his 25th anniversary in priesthood, Rev. Nwanua not-ed that a lot of parents barely send their child-ren to school but are not available to monitor the children’s behaviour both at home and in school, stressing that such attitu-de is akin to throwing money into the drain because many of such child-ren end up with anti-social behaviours.

Continuing, the Catholic priest also blamed the Media for exposing Nigerian children to several unnecessary Western culture which are detrimental to the children’s development.

“Moral decadence is on the increase because of the inability of some pa-rents to spend quality time with their children. They are pursuing mon-ey from morning till dusk and do not have time to assess what is happening to their children at home and sch-ool.”

Rev. Nwanua, therefore advised parents, especially mothers to spend quality time with their children while asking the Media to discourage scenes, pictures and publications that are capable of promoting mo-ral decadence in the society.

The cleric also condemned commercialisation of churches in the country, saying that proliferation of churches has adversely affected the gospel as people now see the Church as an avenue to accumulate wealth and not to preach the true Word of God.
