Saraki pledges NASS readiness to tackle ecological problems

Ilorin- The National Assembly is to use legislation to tackle the ecological and environmental problems ravaging the country.

Senator Bukola Saraki, Chairman, Senate Committee on Ecology and Environment, said this Monday in Ilorin while assessing some areas affected by erosion.

Saraki said he embarked on the visit to have first hand information about the affected areas.

He added that his committee would sponsor a bill that would help mitigate the effects of natural disasters in the country.

Saraki said: “Although, some of these problems are natural, but we human beings are contributing to it one way or the other.

“We are going to look at how to address the problems,” he added.

He said work on the dredging of Asa Dam in Ilorin would begin next year.

The areas Saraki visited included Eletu Bridge, Okekere and a gully erosion site at Ofa Garage, all in Ilorin metropolis.
