Bauchi—A family of three perished in a fire disaster in their residence during the Sallah celebrations in Bauchi State.
Sources said those who died were one Nazif Abudullahi, his wife, Aisha and their eight- month-old baby.
An eyewitness told Vanguard that the fire was caused by an electrical fault in the house about 2.a.m on Saturday and spread to the whole building as efforts by neighbours who were woken from sleep by a loud explosion failed to put the fire off.
He said:“The fire started about 2 a.m when everybody in the neighbourhood was asleep. Suddenly, there was a loud bang that woke some of us up.
’’We rushed to the scene to help and rescue the victims, but it was already late, because on our arrival, the fire had already gone out of control and there was nothing anybody could do to salvage the situation,” he added.
Police sources confirmed the incident, saying that the bodies of the victims had been released to their relatives for burial.
Meanwhile, few commercial vehicles plied the roads in the state during the festival, causing hardship to commuters as people stood under the harsh sun for hours without getting vehices to their destinations.
