Yobe approves N1.6bn for housing scheme

Yobe State government has approved N1.6 billion for the construction of 300 additional housing units under the state government’s Owner Occupier Housing Programme (OOHP), as part of efforts to meet the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (UN-MDGs) on housing needs in the state.

The State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Goni Fika disclosed, in Damaturu, that the 300 housing units are to complement the already completed 1, 000 housing units built by the state government. He said beneficiaries of the houses on completion, will include civil servants and other residents of the state.

According to him, the houses will be given out on owner-occupier basis at 65 percent subsidy, stating that if a three-bedroom cost the state government N5 million, a beneficiary is to pay only N1.75 million, representing 65 per cent discount on each of the houses.
