Falcons need total overhaul – Izilien

BY KATE OBODO
Former Eaglets’ coach, Godwin Izilien has urged the Nigeria Football Federation to re-organize the national women team and bring in young players who are hungry for success.

He stressed that the women game will benefit more if the NFF overhauls the Falcons after they crashed out of the London 2012 Olympics, it was the first time the Nigeria women will miss out of the Olympics.

“It is a pity that Nigerian women could not qualify for any of the Olympics. It is so glaring that most of the players paraded for the qualifying series have come of age. Some are old and tired to move on. Take for example Perpetual Nwokacha, Stella Mbachu and host of others. I think it is high time we start to re-organize the team with capable players in team.

“This has to be from the grass-roots, if really we want a tremendous change and results again. Some of the players we have are now becoming over used and also getting tired. From now to the next competition if we continue to maintain these players we will definitely go the same way. Now that we have almost failed in all the competition this is the time.

When asked the kind of coach he would want for the Female team, the former Falcons coach stated,” I think the era of female coach for the women national has is all over. We need a male coach who is technically and technically sound in the game,” Izilien added
