Abuja – A 43-year-old lady, Mrs Mercy Nzegwu, on Tuesday prayed the Garki Customary Court in Abuja, to dissolve her marriage with  one Dennis Nzegwu.

The petitioner who works with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said the marriage was contracted under native laws and customs.

She said that the marriage was blessed with four children and  wished to take custody of the last two children.

The petitioner told the court that her 53-year-old husband who used to work with  the National Museum, resigned in 1996, after which the  responsibility to cater for the family fell on her.

Mercy said she discovered after the marriage that the husband was an“  ill-tempered and a violent person,’’ who always abused her in the presence of their children.

She said she left her home to stay with a friend because of the constant harassment by her husband.

The petitioner sought the court’s intervention to eject the husband from her official residence at 170, Block D22, CBN I&J Quarters, Garki 2.

She said she deserved to occupy her apartment to enable her go to work as well as take care of the children.

The petitioner’s counsel, Nkechi Udoh, urged the court to grant the prayers as the client’s affidavit was unchallenged.

The respondent’s counsel, Mrs G.O.Olaniyan,  who initially opposed moving of the motion, asked for an adjournment to enable her reply.

Presiding Judge, Mr Suleiman Ismaila adjourned the case to Nov. 2 for further hearing. (NAN)
