A socio-cultural organisation, Etsako Club 81, Wednesday, urged the Federal Government to tackle the erosion problem in Etsako land of Edo State as the menace had destroyed many houses in Auchi community.
The group spoke at a media parley held in Lagos on its forthcoming 30th anniversary celebra-tion. Chairman of the planning committee, Engr. S. Ilugbekhai, said effort by locals to control the menace had led to further devastation of the terrain in the Auchi.
He said: “The gully erosion has so far claimed many lives and displaced more than 300 persons. It has also destroyed property worth millions of naira.”
Speaking on the club’s activities in the past 30 years, he said they launched a scholarship fund, “the proceeds of which are directed to fun-ding manpower training in professional fields such as medicine, law, accountancy, agriculture and engineering.”
