EDSOPADEC approves construction of roads in oil communities

BENIN CITY— Chairman of Edo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, EDSOPADEC, Mr. Vincent Uwadiae, has appealed to oil-producing communities in the state to desist from acts capable  of derailing development in their areas.

He said as part of efforts to bring development to the people of the area, the commission had approved the construction of 10 kilometre road each in the oil-producing local government areas of the state in its first phase of contract awards.

Speaking at a meeting with leaders and stakeholders in the oil- producing communities at Igueleba, Orhionmwon Local Government Area, Uwadiae stressed that such developmental efforts can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace.

Urging them to cooperate with contractors handling projects, he assured the community leaders that government was sensitive to their plight, and that the projects to be sited in the areas would be done according to the needs of the people.

The member representing Orhionmwon in the Commission, Mr Fidelis Okonzuwa, earlier expressed satisfaction with the level of job done so far by the commission and assured the community of continuous support from the commission.

Contributors at the meeting lamented the spate of insecurity in the communities and appealed to the state government to provide security particularly in the border communities.
