Niger state governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has called on Nigerians, especially politicians not to see politics as an opportunity to amass illegal wealth but as an opportunity to serve the country diligently.
Speaking at finals of the quiz competition of state state schools to mark the 51st Independence quiz anniversary in Minna yesterday the governor said, “politics is not about stealing; it is not about deceit but about transparent service to the people.”
The governor warned that it is no longer business as usual in the state, adding that those who are still in the public service should either serve diligently or resign honorably rather than be caught siphoning public funds.
He warned that those caught diverting public funds will not be spared but arrested and also prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.
On the performance on the participating schools of the quiz, the governor who said he was highly impressed over the performance of the schools said, “this is an indication that money invested in Education recently is gradually yielding dividend and we will not relent.”
He directed the state ministry of Education to establish Cyber Cafes in the two schools, Government Model secondary school Suleja and Government secondary school, GRA, Bida which participated in the finals of the quiz competition.
Governor Aliyu also directed that 50 sets of computer and standby Generators should be provided for the cafes which should be completed this December and put to use.
Government model secondary school Suleja came first with 44 point and smiled home with a giant trophy while Government secondary school, GRA Bida came second with 40 points
