Asaba—DELTA State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has asked traditional rulers to be involved in monitoring of contractors handling government projects in their domain with a view to checking  the excesses of contractors, who collect money and fail to execute the projects.

He gave the charge when he received the new traditional ruler of Oruarive-Abraka Kingdom, Akpomeyoma Majoroh, Ojeta 11 during a courtesy visit to his office.

The governor said:  “With the new strategy we are using, we will involve traditional rulers in the monitoring of projects in the communities, especially if the contractor is an indigene.”

He explained that the involvement of  traditional rulers became important to avoid a situation where contractors collect money and abandon  projects. He urged traditional rulers to raise alarm when contractors particularly those who hail from the benefitting communities refuse to execute jobs after collecting mobilisation fees.

He assured  Abraka community saying,  “let me use this opportunity to assure Abraka people that I have no problem with them. I have never had problem with Abraka people and I will not have problem with them. One or two persons may have political differences with me but that does not affect my relationship with Abraka people.”
