By Ebele Onuorah

The 1st Apapa District Superintendent’s Essay Competition 2011 came to an end with at least 35 students bagging an award for excellence in essay writing.

The project which was organized by Rev. M.K. Ogunbola, Assemblies of God Apapa District Superintendent and Mr. Uche Udungwor, Chairman of the Award Committee was hosted by Assemblies of God to check the trend of our almost extinct reading culture less it leaves a damaging effect on the future of the society.

Speaking with Rev. Ogunbola, he said that the essay competition was initiated as a result of decline in reading culture and passion for leadership development.

“The competition is set to encourage our children, give them a sense of belonging and to let them know that education remains the best legacy any parent, guardian or institution can bequeath to any child” he added.

“This award, apart from encouraging the younger generation to embrace reading also seeks to inspire, motivate and reward hard work which we hope will help in preparing them for the challenges of life ahead and spur them to more action knowing fully well that there are yet more grounds to conquer” Mr Udungwor noted.
