Yenagoa- Following the recent upsurge in cult-related killings in Yenagoa and its environs, police in Bayelsa State, Monday, said they have arrested 29 suspects in connection with the wave of crime in the state capital.
State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aliyu Musa, said the arrest led to the recovery of arms and ammunition, including a G3 rifle, pump action rifle, 45 ammunition of 7.62mm calibre, two ammunition of .99mm calibre and six live cartridges.
No fewer than 20 persons have reportedly lost their lives in renewed cult wars in the state, where night live is gradually grinding to a halt as result of the rampaging cultists.
Parading the suspects, yesterday, at the state Police Command, , said the suspects were nabbed in separate operations in Yenagoa following raids on black spots by men of the Command.
Briefing newsmen on the event of the last two weeks, where suspected rival cultists have engaged themselves in gang war leading to killings and maiming of innocent citizens of the state, Musa said he was forced to take steps which led to the arrest of members cult groups responsible for the killings in the metropolis.
