Team Nigeria Monday recorded improved performances, winning two more gold medals in badminton. In the women’s singles event, Nigeria’s Susan Ede defeated her compatriot Grace Gabriel in straight sets in  the final, giving Nigeria a gold and silver.

In men’s double, the pair of Olaoluwa Fagbemi and Jimka Bulus defeated their South African counterparts in straight sets in the final to bag Nigeria’s third gold medal so far in that sport.

Running in the women’s T/12 800 meters (for the partially sighted).Adewale Deborah won gold for Nigeria while Mary Awaza bagged bronze in the same event. Adesoji Ademeora also won bronze in the T12 Eight hundred meters event for men.

 We did well — Karate Coach

National Karate coach, Aina James who lead the Nigeria to 1 silver and two bronze medals said their performance was an improvement on their Algiers 2007 outing.

Adele Hope won silver in the men’s +84 weight category while the trio of Afesumen Sandra, Okeke Nkechi and Omotayo Olayinka won bronze in the Kata Team event while Efezino Akpotu won bronze in the -75 weight category.

Speaking with Sports Vanguard at the All Africa Games Village in Maputo, the coach said although the result did not meet his expectations, the team’s overall performance was good. He assessed the standard at the games as high, saying that there was a lot to learn from their experience.

Doreen  Amata wins gold in high jump

Nigeria’s Doreen Amata Monday added another gold to Nigeria’s growing medal haul as she lept a height of 1.8 meters in the high jump event. Osazuwa Uhunoma won silver in the same event.
