Bad roads: Bar works, interior ministers from air travel, Jonathan told

By Dayo Johnson Akure

A non-governmental group, Save the Masse and Children Heart Association, has asked President Goodluck Jonathan to bar the interior and works ministers from travelling by air until federal roads in the country are fixed.  The group was  worried over the poor state of federal roads especially in the southern region.

According to a statement  in Akure by its coordinator, Hon. Akin Joye, it said “apart from wasting quality man hours on the roads, the development has made many passengers to fall victim of armed robbery attacks.”

Joye pointed out that “in order to ensure effective monitoring of the activities of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency and the ministry of works, ministers in charge of interior and works must be barred from further travelling by air within Nigeria until all the federal roads in this country are fully fixed”

He enjoined the president to declare a state of emergency on the federal roads in the country and give the ministry of works, a definite ultimatum to make them motorable. According to the coordinator “, any delay in doing this will further expose innocent Nigerians including children to the risk of ghastly road accidents and armed robbery attacks”
