Sokoto – A Sokoto-based human rights activist and lecturer with the Department of Educational Foundations, Faculty of Education and Extension Services of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Dr. Husaini Mango, yesterday, flayed government’s decision to spend funds on Ramadan feeding than provision of social amenities.
At a briefing, Mango said the Sokoto State Government’s decision to provide breakfast for those fasting was unIslamic.
He said: “What the government is doing is not religious, it is error and hypocrisy in religious practice.
“In the true Islamic practice, you cannot owe a man a debt and fail to pay him, then you turn round to give him charity. It is not acceptable in the true Islamic practice.”
The lecturer noted that there were civil servants in the state who died on active service, whose widows and children were awaiting death benefits, which according to him, remain unpaid by the government.
