Decolonise the Mind re-opens New Nimbus Gallery

All is now set for the official re opening of The New Nimbus Gallery located at 9-11Maitama Sule Street, S/W Ikoyi, Lagos.

According to the director/Curator of the gallery Chike Nwagbogu, the center will be re-opened in August with an art exhibition and a lecture tagged , Decolonising the Mind.

The avid art promoter who is of the view that art can decolonize the minds of Nigerians pointed out that “many things have gone wrong in the country , imagine Nigeria after 50 years of independence still depend on foreigners for virtually everything, in fact presently there is nothing local about Nigeria.”He said.

The gallery he stated can now boast of a modern art gallery that will be available for contemporary exhibitions , outdoor restaurant where one will get the best of African dishes and drinks as well as a music stage that will bring musicians from all over the world.

As in its tradition, Nimbus will also provide art valuation, advisory and auctioneering services geared towards stimulating the secondary art market and transforming art works from being mere decorative pieces to becoming collateralized assets.

For the event, many great artists like Ben Osawe, Tola Wewe, Sam Ovarati, Lemmy Ghariokwu, Damon Albarn are expected. The lecture will be delivered by a sociologist Dr Chinasa Mbakwe while the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe will be the Royal Father of the day and Special Guest of Honour.
