IN order to boost industrialisation in line with President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformation agenda in promoting industrialisation as a vehicle for creating wealth and job opportunities, the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, UNIDO, and the Bank of Industry, BOI, have strengthened their partnership to develop the industrial sector in the country.
UNIDO Country Representative, Mr. Patrick Kormawa explained that Nigeria has all it takes to achieve a rapid transformation of its industrial sector.
Kormawa, who spoke during an official visit to the BOI stressed that without power most of the industrial activities in the country will not be competitive in the global market.
He said as a result of this, UNIDO has concluded plans to set up two centres of excellence in the Northern and South-Western parts of Nigeria to promote the garment industry in the nation.
“Today’s meeting is not only to review the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, but also to expand areas of collaboration which includes our activities in developing hydro power generation for industrial activities,” he said.
He added that UNIDO is working on small hydro mini power plant which will be created and installed in the states that are willing to promote industrialisation.
