UGHELLI-NATIONAL President of the Niger Delta Youth Movement, NDYM, Mr Godspower Odenema, has raised the alarm over the purported move by Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, to sell some of its oil wells in the Niger Delta region.
Odenema, in a statement, yesterday, urged the Federal Government, the international community and other stakeholders to call Shell to order, blaming part of the crisis in the region on the insensitivity and ridiculous exploitation by Shell.
He said, “for the avoidance of doubt, we want to state that from the outset, that much of the crisis in the Niger Delta today, can be traced to the insensitivity and crass exploitation, which had become the hallmark of Shell in our region.
“We caution Shell to halt the sale of the oil wells with immediate effect. Since the discovering of oil in the Niger Delta in the 50s, Shell has been anti-thetical to the well-being of the good people of the region. We are all aware of the gory experience aggregating a holocaust, which Shell visited on the region,” he added.
