Yenagoa – The killing last Saturday, of a former militant leaders in Bayelsa State, ‘Commander’ Ebi Albert and his driver in broad day light by unknown gunmen may have triggered fresh panic among the former creek warlords in the state with many opting for  police ordelies and use of bullet proof vests.

Vanguard reliably gathered that the weekend, killing which jolted the peace in Yenagoa, the state capital, brings to five the number of former militants killed since the amnesty programme came into force.

A break down of the death recorded since the post amnesty era in the  Niger Delta region showed that three had been killed in Bayelsa and one each in Rivers and Ondo States.

Those cut down in mysterious circumstances include Mr. Olali Abogha, an indigene of Akassa in the Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa otherwise known as Commander Areama in the militant world.

Abogha was found dead in the pool of his blood following several machete cuts inflicted on him mid last year.

In neighbouring Rivers State, Soboma George was cut down by unknown assailants,  allegedly armed with AK 47 rifles last August.

Also reportedly killed was ‘Commander’ Ezekiel’s personal aide in Ondo.

Though the motive for the killings was still a mystery, speculations are rife that they might have been hit by their followers over alleged disagreement on what sources described as illegal deduction of their boys’ allowances.

It will be recalled that a group of former militant leaders under the aegis of “Group of Peacekeeping Ex-militant Leaders of Bayelsa State,” had last month raised alarm over the security challenges being faced by the former militant leaders in the region following the manner in which some of the members were being cut down.
