Lady of Songs, Christy Essien-Igbokwe, has chided members of the immediate past Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for asking her to pay back an unspecified amount of money to the state government following her contract to supply printing machines to the state newspaper corporation about 12 years ago, saying that the former legislators were living in ‘’a fools paradise”.
Mrs Igbokwe said that the matter over which the former legislators adjudicated, was pending in court and wondered why they had to discuss a matter that was subjudice on the eve of their departure.
In a statement issued in Lagos, yesterday, she lamented that she had been made an object of attack by the administration of Chief Godswill Akpabio in the last four years for allegedly using forged documents to clear the printing machines in 2000, adding that the government was after her because of her decision that ‘’the evil that is presently in Akwa Ibom must be removed so that the peace that existed amongst our people returns”.
Her counsel, Mr Gerald Abayomi, has, however, promised to get the resolution of the former House quashed in court as, according to him, ‘’the proceedings giving rise to such resolution can never stand on the pillars of the rule of law, natural justice, equity and good conscience.”
