The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP,  yesterday has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to begin the de-registering of political parties that performed woefully in the 2011 general elections.

The South West Secretary of the CNPP, Mr Austin Nnorom told Vanguard that the 2011 polls had shown that most political parties did not live up to the provisions for which they were established.

The Electoral Act 2010 (amended) in Section 78 (7i, ii) gives power to the electoral umpire to deregister political parties on the following grounds; breach of any of the requirements for registration, and failure to win a seat in the National Assembly.

He said: “One of such provisions is participation in elections which majority of the parties stayed away from.
