By Kolade Larewaju, Abeokuta
At least one person was wounded in Abeokuta on Thursday night in a shooting moments after a rally by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dimeji Bnkole.

Shot was Mr. Samuel Kolawole of NUR Road, Isabo, close to the venue of the rally.
But Special Adviser to the Speaker on Communication, Chief Kayode Odunaro denied the involvement of the Speaker’s team in the shooting explaining that it was the convoy of the Speaker that was attacked by street urchins.

Trouble was said to have started after the campaign when some residents started booing him.
His armed aides were said to have returned to the area after they initially departed with the Speaker to unleash terror on the area for booing him.

Speaking to newsmen yesterday in Abeokuta, the victim, Mr. Kolawole said “I just got back from work; as I entered the house Bankole was doing his rally close to my house, the next thing I heard were sporadic gunshots.

“I hurriedly took my wife and we locked our entrance door, but I later realized that my little boy was not with me; then I tried to search for him in the passage of our house.

“It was in the process of searching for him that I was hit by gunshots that penetrated through our door, I was taken to a nearby hospital where 23 pellets were removed from my body”.

He pleaded with well meaning Nigeria to intervene to save his life as he hinted that he was still feeling pains in the affected parts of his body.

In visible pains, Kolawole whose lower abdomen and left leg were heavily bandaged said “as I am standing now the leg is paining me seriously. I’m not a politician, I was in my room when it happened,” he said.

However, the Media aide of speaker Dimeji Bankole, Chief Odunaro, said on the contrary it was street urchins that attacked the campaign train of Speaker Bankole, when they got to Isabo area.
He said that the attack had been reported to the state Director of State Security Services (SSS), State Commissioner of Police as well as the police Area commander.
He said that he was unaware that anybody was shot during the campaign.

When Saturday Vanguard visited the house at Isabo, bullet hole was seen at the main door where the bullet said to have hit Kolawole entered the house
