UYO – A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain  in Akwa Ibom State and a former senatorial aspirant, Chief  Nelson Okoroigwe, has raised an alarm over plot to assassinate him by some politicians in the state.  Chief  Nelson, who is from Uyo North Senatorial District, told newsmen that his life had been under severe threat since he declared his intension to contest the 2011 elections.

The politician who has gone into hiding, said threat to his life became apparent when his home at Uyo was  attacked and set ablaze, while his cousin who was at home when the assailants struck, was shot dead.

According to him; “It was like they were trailing me and they knew when I got into town from Lagos and they struck at my apartment and shot my cousin, Samuel Anochie, dead. The young man was one of those who believed in my vision for change. But his dreams were cut short and I was sent running.” Highlighting reasons why he fled the country, Chief Nelson, alleged that, “political terrain of the state became too terrifying and dangerous for players like us.

“I am currently on exile and  I don’t know when I  will return but I want the world to know what I am going through,” he said.
