AWKA – The Chris Ngige Campaign Organisation has dismissed insinuations that former Anambra State governor, Dr. Chris Ngige, was locked in a war of words with his successor, Mr. Peter Obi, over the senatorial bid of former Information Minister, Prof. Dora Akunyili.
Deputy Director, Communications, of the organisation, Mr. Okelo Madukaife, said in a reaction that contrary to reports, Governor Obi, rather than Dr. Ngige, who is contesting Anambra Central senatorial seat on the platform of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, was the one intimidating traditional rulers in the senatorial district to support Akunyili or lose their positions.
He said Governor Obi, at a meeting with the traditional rulers at Government House, Awka, asked the monarchs who had already endorsed Dr. Ngige, to switch their support to Akunyili, being President Jonathan’s candidate in the election.
Akunyili is contesting the senatorial seat on the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.
Madukaife said: “Has he (Obi) denied that he attended in person and addressed the meeting? Has he denied that he asked the royal fathers to vote for Dora Akunyili or come against the might of President Goodluck Jonathan who he claimed was sponsoring her.”
