Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, will on Wednesday, March 23,  hold a one-day debate for governorship candidates in Lagos State.

Tagged: Agenda 2011, the debate, which is scheduled to take place at the Studio of Lagos Television, Alausa, Ikeja, is designed to make public office holders accountable to the people.

In a statement by the Chairman of Lagos State Council of the NUJ, Mr. Wahab Oba, and the Secretary, Comrade Sylva Emeka-Okereke, the debate would feature six governorship candidates of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN; Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; the National Conscience Party, NCP; the Congress for Positive Change, CPC; All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP; and All Progrssives Grand Alliance, APGA.

The candidates of the six political parties are expected to unfold their programmes and policies on Health, Security, Education, Housing, Agricultural/Rural Development as well as Transportation and Infrastructure among others.

The candidates were carefully selected based on text messages received from the general public, following advertorials ran on Lagos Television and Eko FM.

In the advertorial, the public were asked to text parties of their choice and at the end of the exercise, the six political patties got the highest text messages from the public.

Panelists are drawn from the media, academia and civil society groups. Professor Abayomi Akinyeye of Department of History and Strategic Studies, University of Lagos has been selected as the chief Panelists while some critical stakeholders from the manufacturing sector, medical and legal professions as well as other sectors of the nation’s economy will be among the special guests.
