ABUJA – Senate President, David Mark, has asked Christians to pray for the success of April 2011 general elections.

Mark in a goodwill message to Christians, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Paul Mumeh, urged Christians to pray for Nigeria as they start this year’s Lenten season, noting that the nation needed prayers more than ever before to succeed in the forthcoming polls.

The statement read: “I urge all Christians to pray for peace, unity and progress of the nation. Peace in our homes and our nation, most importantly, we must put the 2011 elections in the hands of God.

“We can do our best as humans, but the ultimate crown of glory comes from the almighty God. That is why we must place all our hopes and aspirations in the hands of God.”

Senator Mark also enjoined politicians to play the game according to the rules “because if we all play the game according to the rules, then we would have overcome the challenges in the April elections.”

He charged the electorate themselves to rise up to the occasion by exercising their civic obligation without fear or favour.

The President of the Senate harped on the need for all stakeholders to put aside political party differences and work for the unity of Nigeria.

He reminded the citizens to shun ethnic or religious sentiment and contribute their quota for growth of the nation.
