Abuja – A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday reserved ruling to March 4 in a suit filed by Alhaji Mohammed Abacha challenging his substitution as CPC governorship candidate in Kano.

Abacha, son of former Head of State, the late Gen. Sani Abacha, approached the court on Jan. 24 to challenge the substitution after the party’s gubernatorial primary.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole reserved the judgment after counsel to the parties adopted their written addresses.

“We have made substantial progress in this matter and with the adoption of the addresses today, are now set for judgment,” he said.

The CPC, INEC and Mr Lawal Jafaru-Isa are defendants in the matter.

Earlier, Chief Andrew Awomolo (SAN), counsel to INEC urged the court to hold that the party lacked the power to disqualify the plaintiff who scored the highest votes in the primary.

Awomolo submitted that Abacha scored 144,066 votes to defeat four other contestants, and that Ja’afar-Isa whose name was sent to INEC, scored 78,671 votes.

He said that Sen. Rufai Hanga, Dr Awalu Anwa, as well as Mr Magaji Abdullahi scored 45, 618; 30,410; and 5,759 votes respectively.
