Suspected gunmen have again attacked Issele-Azagba, a community in Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State, killing one man and abducting his wife.

The Vanguard gathered that the gunmen who stormed the community, Sunday night, attacked the resident of the yet to be unidentified man, shooting sporadically and also left the daughter of the deceased with injuries.

According to a source from the palace of the traditional ruler of the community, HRM Francis Ijieh, the gunmen operated unchallenged for hours until a team of policemen came around at about midnight, after the invaders had disappeared with the wife of the deceased said to be of Urhobo ethnic extraction.

The source who pleaded anonymity said the injured girl was taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba for treatment.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO,  Delta State Command, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, assured said the police were on the trail of the criminals with a view to rescuing the kidnapped woman.

Meanwhile, a group of suspected cultists, yesterday (Tuesday) morning reportedly invaded the base of ‘Operation Safe Delta’, a formation of the Delta State Police Command in Issele-Asagba, near Asaba, attempting to free one of their members who was being detained.

The suspected cultists who were reported to be members of Vikings confraternity stormed the police base with over 15 cars but were overpowered by the Police.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa, confirmed the incident, said seven of them were arrested with arms by his men.

Inuwa said the seven arrested suspects had already confessed to being members invaded the command of Operation Safe Delta with the intent to rescue one of their members but they were rounded up our operatives”.
