Anambra State police command yesterday in Awka paraded 27 persons, including a 20 –year-old female, for allegedly participating in armed robbery and kidnapping in various parts of the state.
Items recovered from the suspects include rocket launchers, three AK 47 rifles, one general purpose machine gun, three rockets, 78 magazines for the AK 47 rifles, 1360 rounds of ammunition for the AK 47 rifles.
Also recovered from them included one metallic coloured Honda Accord and one L -300 Mitsubishi bus with number plate DT 701 ENU which they used to convey the arms and 13 assorted charms.
The state commissioner of police, Mr. Muhtari Ibrahim who briefed newsmen on the activities of the command since his assumption of office last month, said that a House of Representatives candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, for the April, 2011 election, Mr. Ifeanyi Kamaolu who was kidnapped last month was also rescued.
Ibrahim also said that 19 ad hoc staff of INEC who participated in the recently concluded voter registration exercise were being interrogated, adding that they would be charged to court to answer for themselves.
According to him, their offences ranged from diversion of Direct Data Capture, DDC, machines, registration of underage, procuring of persons to register in a particular unit, among others.
