A gang of kidnappers struck at Umunede, Delta State and abducted a 76-year-old mother of a former bank Chief Executive. They are demanding $200 as ransom before she would be released.

The woman identified as  Madam Janeth Ukpaka, was seized at a gunpoint by the kidnappers in the early hours of Tuesday.

Suspecting that it might be an insiders job, State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Charles Muka, told our reporter that “we have arrested her two domestic servants. They are being interrogated as I speak to you.” The kidnappers, he said, had asked for  $200 as ransom”, adding  “we have spread our dragnet.”

It was gathered that the kidnappers scaled the fence to gain entry into the massive compounded located along Old Ekwuoma after shooting sporadically to scare away passerby.

Meanwhile, the state police command has successfully charged 12 persons to court for various electoral offences during the January 6,  governorship rerun in the state. They were variously charged before different magistrates courts in Ughelli and Sapele.  Muka told Vanguard that the accused persons were arrested for being in possession of fake voter’s cards, multiple registrations, snatching of ballot boxes among other offences.
