2011: Former LP aspirants emerge ACN candidates

BY DAYO JOHNSON
THE camp of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Ondo State swelled weekend as failed aspirants in the ruling Labour Party now find succour in the party.

It would be recalled that the former Power and Steel Minister, Dr Olu Agunloye was the fist to decamp after he failed to clinch the LP ticket for the Ondo North Senatorial district.

Meanwhile, the son of the deceased former governor of the state, Chief Adebayo Adefarati, Gboyega has emerged as the aspirant of the ACN in the House of Representative seat in Akoko South East/South West Federal constituency.

Two LP aspirants, Chief Olufemi Adekanmbi, a House of Representative aspirant for Owo/Ose and Dr Michael Akintade, a Senatorial aspirant for Ondo Central Senatorial district who failed to emerge during the primaries of the party decamped to ACN.

They were instantly adopted as the party’s candidates after they picked the nomination forms of the party. It would be recalled that the two aspirants joined the ruling party less than a year ago.

Addressing newsmen at the ACN state secretariat, Adekanmbi said he left the Labour Party to protest the injustice meted on him by the party leadership.

He accused the leadership of the party of failing to provide a level-playing ground for all the aspirants in the party.

According to him, “the party leadership imposed candidates on them without any sign of remorse.

‘I was initially asked to withdraw from the race by the party leadership who has a candidate they want to field during the election. Since, they did not allow free and fair primaries to take place; I have to quit the party. I left the Labour Party because of injustice, the leadership of the party imposes candidates on some of us, and so we have to leave in order to kick against the injustice”, he lamented.
