Delta gets new Chief Judge

By Austin Ogwuda
ASABA—A new Chief Judge, CJ, of Delta State, was, yesterday, sworn in by the Acting Governor of the state, Prince Sam Obi.

The new CJ, Justice Zai-Laye-Dawo Smith succeeds the former Chief Judge, Justice Rosaline Bozimo.
Acting Governor Obi while congratulating the new CJ for the appointment,  charged him “to continue to maintain a high sense of responsibility and shun anything capable of bringing dishonor to the state judiciary.”

He noted that “the fight against societal ills can only be won with cooperation, firmness and active participation of judiciary.

“I also enjoin judges in the state judiciary to continue to administer justice with fairness, openness and the fear of God, who is the ultimate judge to whom all mortals will render account of their stewardship.”

Also, yesterday, Acting Governor Obi while swearing in two additional commissioners,  said he was calling on “all politicians to eschew sensationalism and concentrate on values that will bring positive development for our common good.”

We are determined to change the precept that politics is a make or mar activity”, he added.
