Asaba — ABDUCTORS of the female medical doctor attached to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Asaba, Dr. Esi Onwuemene, have released her after collecting N1 million as ransom.

Also report from Asaba said that two persons were shot dead on Tuesday night, following a fierce gun battled between two rival cult groups at about 8:00 p.m.

The attack led to the abrupt closure of beer parlours and other entertainment centres as residents scampered for safety. State Police Public Relations Officer Mr. Charles Muka, confirmed the incident, saying that they were on top of the situation.

The kidnappers, who initially asked for N10 million ransom and later raised it to N40 million when they discovered that the woman is the wife of a banker at last collected N1 million before letting the her off the hook.

Confirming the release, the FMC Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi  Ogbogu, said, “she was released  yesterday (Tuesday)  night after the payment of N1million ransom. We thank God that she was not hurt. She is in a stable condition.”

The woman who is nursing a baby was abducted on Sunday in Asaba which sparked off protest from the doctors  at hospital who  marched to Government House Asaba on Tuesday  afternoon in anger over the development. The doctors in addition down tools.

But Ogbogu told our reporter on phone yesterday afternoon that “they (doctors) are back to work”.
