In solidarity with their colleagues sacked from the MRS oil and Gas Ltd., Petroleum Tanker Drivers, PTD, Lagos zonal council, has resolved to stop lifting oil from today, pending the determination of a court action against the company.

Hearing is expected to resume before a Lagos High court hearing a suit instituted against the oil company by some financial institutions, the incidence, which led to the relief of the tanker drivers from their duty post.

In a terse statement issued by the union’s zonal secretary, Comrade Atanda Adebayo, it expressed its readiness to support  their sacked colleagues in ensuring that they were fully paid their entitlements.

Demand road repair

The statement also called on the government to start the process of fixing bad roads leading to frequent accidents by the tanker drivers in the high ways.

The union said over 5,000 of its members working with the company lost their job without pay due to an alleged recent court order freezing the account of the company.

It said: “The union will not lift petroleum product from depots from 17th December, as a sign of solidarity to our members, when the case in court will be heard and while the court proceedings lasted, as injury to one is injury to all.”

It expressed concern about the recent road accidents involving tankers, as well as sympathise with the families of those who lost their lives due to fire outbreak from the accidents.
