The Chairman of the Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, yesterday, welcomed the Federal High Court judgment recognising his election, even as he put the burden of reconciliation on aggrieved party members who he tasked to seize opportunity of the judgment to come on board.

Nwaoboshi was joined by Delta State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chief Paulinus Akpeki, in lauding the judgment which put to rest controversies over the legitimacy of the congress that threw up the Nwaoboshi executive.

Controversy over Nwaoboshi’s legitimacy as chairman of Delta State chapter of the PDP came to the fore, following disagreements among party stakeholders, led by Chief Edwin Clark, to the effect that the congress that elected Nwaoboshi was not properly convened.

The matter was further exacerbated by the letter from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to the PDP directing it to hold fresh congresses in eight states, including Delta.

Yesterday’s judgment by the Federal High Court, Abuja, was in response to a court action instituted by the Nwaoboshi executive against the INEC order.

“It is a good thing and I commend the judiciary for the bold judgment,” Nwaoboshi told Vanguard on telephone yesterday.

Affirming that it was a good thing to seek a judicial test to the case, he said the party would move on to consolidate the ongoing efforts in reconciling aggrieved party members.

He said he would leave the matter of reconciliation to those aggrieved and the reconciliation committee constituted by the Acting Governor, Prince Sam Obi.

Akpeki himself, a prominent party stalwart, said the judgment was a vindication of the assertion that a proper congress was held.

“The judgment, therefore, is a welcome development, especially when the PDP is preparing for the governorship rerun election. It is a morale booster for the teeming supporters of our party,” Akpeki said.

He, however, put the onus on pursuing reconciliation at the doorstep of those aggrieved.

“Well it is up to persons aggrieved to take advantage of the judgment to make peace in the overall interest of Delta State.”
