OSOGBO—STUDENTS of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, yesterday, lamented the poor welfare condition, victimization and alleged insecurity of lives and property of students of the institution.

The students, under the aegis of Action Committee of the Great Ife Students’ Union, who disclosed this at a press conference, in Osogbo, stated that the situation on the campus of the institution has completely broken down.

The group, led by Comrade Dunsin Olowolafe, faulted the Vice Chancellor, Prof Eyitope Ogunbodede for proscribing a democratic union of the institution.

Olowolafe said: “The accommodation policy was a wicked response to the crisis of congestion on the campus.

“The residential hostels, which accommodated about 70 percent of the students, were decongested by driving majority of the students to town/off campus, a situation which degenerated into a transportation crisis on the campus.

“The group demands a probe of the Vice Chancellor and recovery of funds meant for the construction of four new affordable halls of residence.”
