Teachers rape pupils in Adamawa primary schools

By Umar Yusuf
Yola—No fewer than four primary school teachers in Adamawa State are presently facing disciplinary actions for allegedly raping their pupils and for other immoral acts.

The state chairman of the Universal Basic Education Board, UBE, Dr. Salihu Bakari Girei, told newsmen in Yola, yesterday,  that those currently facing disciplinary measures are the ones reported, even as many others are still hiding in various schools unnoticed.

Bakari disclosed that at the special education centre in Jada, a primary school pupil was impregnated and the headmaster of the school was suspended and the case referred to the Teacher’s Registration Council of Nigeria.

He said: “To our dismay, for over six months, the council could not communicate to us their findings or report. After the seventh month, the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria wrote us to ask why the headmaster should be suspended.

“This is to tell you that a lot of politics is involved in the case. I want to assure the people that my board will not tolerate such heinous acts by primary  school teachers and will continue to act  swiftly.”

Dr. Girei also announced that a primary school teacher in Yola, the state capital, raped a pupil twice and the suspect admitted doing the act, asking, “and you expect the board to fold its arm and watch innocent under-aged girls been destroyed by ungodly teachers”?

He announced that the 1964 education law which stipulates criminal charges will be slammed on the teacher currently on suspension  to serve as deterrent to many other indulging in such acts.

Dr Salihu Bakari Girei also disclosed that no fewer than four Local Education Authority Secretaries across the state are presently facing disciplinary actions for Mal_administration and financial recklessness.
