Human Rights Writers’ Association of Nigeria,HURIWA, has called on the Federal Government  to take cognitive measures to restore law and order back to Imo State.

Reacting specifically to the spate of targeted killings of high profile citizens in Imo State, the Rights group called on President Goodluck Jonathan to deploy soldiers to the street of major towns in Imo State to maintain law and order that had collapsed and also fight violent crime, since the conventional police force seemed to have abysmally failed to discharge her constitutional role creditably.

Making this call through its National Coordinator, Mr Emmanuel Onwubiko, and the National Director of Media Affairs, Miss Zainab Yusuf, the group also decried the killing of Eze Emeka Njoku, the  traditional ruler of Ehime Mbano local council of Imo State, Princess Amaka, a business woman, who was also gruesomely killed in Owerri just as two other high profile politicians were assassinated in parts of Imo State recently.

HURIWA  said the violent assassination of the monarch, among several other high profile citizens and politicians in recent times in Imo State, sign-posted the extreme desperation of certain persons to dominate the political environment and also the collapse of the conventional Nigeria Police Force.

The group canvassed efficient and effective probe of all violent killings in recent times in Imo State so as to bring the perpetrators to justice.
