IBB loses mother-in-law

ABUJA – Almost 11 months after the wife of former military ruler, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, IBB, lost his wife, Maryam Babangida to cancer, grief has again struck the family of IBB as the mother of his late wife passed on, Tuesday.

A statement from the family of the retired General by his Personal Assistant, Alhaji Ibrahim Ismaeel, reads: “The family of former President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, announces the death of Hajiya Asabe Halima Mohammed.

“Hajiya Asabe, who died in a Cairo hospital in Egypt, after a protracted illness, was the mother of the former president’s late wife and former First Lady, Mrs. Maryam Babangida.

“Born on July1, 1922, late Hajiya Asabe was a respected and devout Muslim who was helpful, caring and kind to all.

“She is survived by her son, Sonny, her daughters; Hadiza and Hajiya Jummai King Sambo, many grand and great grand children.

“Her remains is expected back in the country for immediate burial according to Islamic rites.

“May her soul rest in peace. Ameen.”
