It was a sad tale on Thursday afternoon at the police headquarters in Ilorin, when a man of about 30 years of age was paraded for allegedly hacking his father to death for reprimanding him.

The incident occurred in  Kaiama Village in Kaiama LGA of Kwara state.   The commissioner of Police, Mukthari Ibrahim, while briefing journalists, said the investigation conducted by his command showed that the deceased had been unhappy with his son over the son’s alleged squandering of his property.

Alh Ibrahim noted that the suspect, Yele Deno, a Fulani man hacked  his 50 years old  father, Deno Amadu, to death with a cutlass after the father upbraided him for acts he considered were unbecoming of a well brought up son.

The commissioner said that the late father was pushed to the wall by the unruly behavior of the son and decided to beat him with a stick  saying that he could no longer fold his arms and watch him squandering his property because he is not the only child he had.

Consequent upon his father’s beating, Ibrahim said the suspect grew annoyed  and resorted to attacking his father with a cutlass, killed him   and then  buried his remains in a bush in the village.

The police commissioner said that his command had exhumed the remains of the deceased for medical examination, adding that the corpse was photographed.

He said that the cutlass the suspect used to commit the murder has been recovered and disclosed that the man would be charged to court as soon as the police complete its investigations.

The suspect, Yele Deno, when paraded at the police headquarters in Ilorin before newsmen, confirmed that he killed his father, stressing that he committed the heinous act when the deceased beat him with a stick after a disagreement between both of  them.

He said that he asked his father to allow them to sell from the bags of corn they have in stock to get some N3, 000 for his younger sister who had come from her matrimonial home for a visit but he declined.

The suspect claimed that the deceased angrily disagreed with him and resorted to beating him with ,while he retaliated by attacking him with cutlass until he was dead.
