Mabel Oboh’s NGO rolls out new year package for entertainers

Months after it successfully organized a week-long skills acquisition programme for Nigerian entertainers, in Lagos, Mabel Oboh Centre for Save Our Star, MOSCSOS, is currently fine-tuning plans to unveil its latest project. This time, the NGO  is organizing a health insurance scheme for entertainers.

The health insurance scheme, which kicks off early next year, according to the founder, Mabel Oboh, is to put an end to the situation where entertainers go cap-in-hand to beg for money in times of difficulty.

Oboh, who’s a seasoned broadcaster and actress, said the NGO is targeting a reasonable enrollment comprising musicians, actors, dancers, journalists, comedians and sports men and women with a projection to reduce health issues among the entertainers.

Stakeholders decry static development in health sector

According to her, the NGO is at the point of sealing the deal with its chosen insurance company.

“We are actually putting a health insurance scheme for entertainers in place. By the grace of God, before the end of January next year, we will unveil the scheme. The whole idea is for every entertainer to be able to get basic healthcare.”

“We are also planning to flag off a campaign on how to live right. If the entertainers subject themselves to regular medical check ups, they are not likely to have any critical ailment. But of course, the insurance policy will also cover critical ailment,” she explained.

She, however, advised the entertainers to register with the NGO to enable them have access to the scheme. Meanwhile,MOCSOS is collaborating with the UK-based NGO, JOM Charity to make this dream come true. JOM Charity, which is owned by Josephine Oboh-Macleod, it was gathered has pledged to sponsor about five entertainers, while MOCSOS boss said the NGO will also subsidized the policy for 20 entertainers.
