Mabel Oboh marks diamond birthday; but ‘I have to keep it quiet for Mighty Mouse’

Veteran broadcaster, Nollywood pioneer, politician, activist and philanthropist, Mabel Oboh, has marked her diamond birthday with family in a quiet ceremony.

An excited Mabel said although she’s thankful for how far God has brought her and blessed her with a good family, she had to keep the celebration low key in honour of her brother, John Oboh, popular as Mighty Mouse, who passed on last year.

Josephine Oboh-MacLeod, Mabel’s younger sister, and her husband Norman, hosted the celebrant and her family to a quiet celebration to mark the birthday.

Reacting to her sister’s gesture, Mabel said: “I feel like a queen today. Just having my family around me on this special day of mine makes me feel so blessed.

“It can only be God that made me see this special day in good health and happiness. I am so grateful.

“Most of my contemporaries in the entertainment industries are mostly gone. But I am alive and spending my blessed day with my loved ones. What else can I ask for?

“In reality, I wanted my diamond birthday to be loud. I wanted to celebrate it with all my family members scattered across the world. I wanted my friends and colleagues to celebrate with me, as I have never had a birthday party before.

“However, I kicked against the idea to honour my late brother, John Oboh, aka Mighty Mouse, who we lost to the cold hands of death in September 2023.

“It’s been very hard for us to cope with our loss and we are still mourning him. God has a reason for everything.

“My super appreciation firstly to my sister, Josephine and her husband, Norman, for honouring me.

“I also thank my two lovely sons, who took out time to spend the day with me.

“My special thanks to all the friends and well wishers who have been sending me endless birthday wishes from all over the world. I’m blessed indeed. I do appreciate them all for making my day so special,” Mabel Oboh enthused.

Family eulogises her

On her part, Josephine Oboh-MacLeod said Mabel is a special, caring and remarkable sister. “She deserves all the love and happiness in the world,” she said.

Mabel’s two sons, Jason and Ralph Leonard, said that their mum means the world to them and no amount of words can convey their love for her.

“Mum is a very kind-hearted person, with a youthful heart that is open as a book.

“She is not just our mum, but also our friend. May God continue to keep her in good health and happiness for us all,” they said.
