IBADAN—THERE was tension yesterday during the swearing-in of a new Commissioner by Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala as a man reportedly sustained gun shot injuries during a scuffle with one of the security men.
Though, the man allegedly shot was moved away from the spot, there were blood stains on the ground where the incident happened.
There were conflicting accounts on what led to the shooting of the man. According to a version of the story, Vanguard gathered that as the event was going on, there was a deafening gun shot down stairs which made some people to rush to the scene.
Already, Governor Akala has directed that a investigation be carried out to ascertain the cause of the gunshot.
Speaking through his Special Adviser on Public Communication, Prince Dotun Oyelade, Akala said, “Governor Akala has ordered investigation into the gun injury sustained by a drummer during the swearing in of a new commissioner.
This followed the discovery that the gun actually detonated in the pocket of the drummer who got injured in the process.”
It was further gathered that the man, a drummer was shot by a man who dressed in a white long robe and that as soon as he shot the man, he dropped the gun and ran away.
Another account had it that the man was accidentally shot by one of the security men attached to the Governor’s office.
This little drama was said to have raised an uproar at the Governor’s office but this did not prevent the commissioner from being sworn-in.
The governor later swore in a new Commissioner for Education, Mr. Oladiti Olubanjo Solomon who replaced the former holder of the office, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja who has now been recommended for a ministerial position by the governor.
Governor Akala used the occasion to appeal to the people of the state to continue to maintain peaceful co-existence saying, “I will not renege on my promise to positively make a difference in the lives of the people, do what is right and govern with the fear of God’’.
He congratulated the new commissioner adding that his appointment was not based on any other extraneous consideration other than merit.
Akala advised the new commissioner to live up to expectation and have a good rapport with his Permanent Secretary and staff of his Ministry.
